Tom Welling reveals why he stopped appearing in Smallville’s blooper reel

If you go through the Smallville DVDs, you’ll see lots of fun stuff in the blooper reels. However, there’s one thing you won’t see - Tom Welling. The series star doesn’t like bloopers.
Speaking to a crowd at Tampa Bay Comic Convention, Welling explained his reasoning. “You will notice that in the beginning, the first season or two, there are more bloopers, at least that I’m in. That’s because I didn’t sign the waiver anymore that said they could use bloopers, because I came to the conclusion that bloopers made the set unsafe.”
“I got to the point where I wanted the set to be a safe place to make mistakes, not something that goes, ‘Oh, let’s laugh about this and show it to everyone.’ I didn’t agree with that,” Welling continued.
Although Welling didn’t sign the waiver, Smallville continued to include a blooper reel on their season DVDs…they just included the other cast members. “The bloopers are more about Michael [Rosenbaum] as time went on,” Welling said. “I signed the waiver,” Rosenbaum added.
However, the lack of Welling blooper footage doesn’t mean the star never messed up. Welling recalled a scene where he and Rosenbaum couldn’t stop giggling. “I think we ended up slapping ourselves in the face because we couldn’t stop laughing. That would’ve been a blooper where people would’ve been like, ‘What’s wrong with them,’” Welling recalled.
I kind of wish Welling had signed the waiver for that one.
